What Motherboard Has Serial Com1 Db9

A motherboard might require an add-on DB9 port and ribbon cable.

Although most new computers lack 9-pin serial ports, it's not hard to find new or old motherboards that include them. Many feature a built-in DB9 port, others have pins that can communicate on COM1 through an add-on DB9 connector.

Modern Motherboards

Some companies still make new, modern motherboards with serial capability. For example, the Super Micro P4SCi Pentium IV motherboard features two high-speed serial ports. It has some of the other older-style connectors as well.

Single Board Computers

The single board computer industry offers another source of new motherboard products with DB9 serial ports. JK Microsystems produces a single-board 386 called the Flashlite 386Ex. It features serial ports for both the COM1 and COM2 channels.

Older Motherboards

Many older motherboard models included DB9 serial ports for COM1, and sometimes COM2, starting in the late 1980s. Two examples are the Itox GIF15 and GIF15-PMC; both have at least one DB9 serial port. They support processors with speeds up to one gigahertz.
