What Hard Drives Are Not Recognized On A8v Deluxe

The Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard supports AMD Athlon 64 processors and dual-channel DDR400 memory. This motherboard includes connectors for internal and external IDE and Serial-ATA hard drives, but it is not compatible with SCSI hard drives.

Interfaces

Asus' A8V Deluxe motherboard features a Promise PDC20378 SATA/IDE interface that lets you install up to four internal IDE and four Serial-ATA hard drives. This motherboard also provides four USB 2.0 ports for connecting external hard drives.

Compatibility

The Asus A8V Deluxe is not compatible with Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) hard drives. You can, however, install a SCSI controller card into one of the motherboard's five available PCI slots to add SCSI compatibility. SCSI offers faster transfer rates when compared with IDE and supports more drives on a single controller.

Considerations

SCSI hard drives are more common in Apple Macintosh or server-grade computers. Although they run faster than IDE drives, SCSI drives are not as quick as newer SATA drives. Only add SCSI support to your A8V Deluxe motherboard is if you intend to run a server with up to 15 internal hard drives, the maximum supported by the SCSI interface.
