1. Open the computer case and make sure everything is connected completely. Loose connections, especially with RAM and video cards, can cause your motherboard to not function correctly.
2. Swap out the processor with a similar processor. Remove the CPU fan and the CPU and put a known-working CPU in the motherboard and test the computer. A bad processor can seem like a motherboard problem.
3. Solder any obviously loose parts or connections on the motherboard. Only do this if you are skilled at soldering and know what has come loose. The easiest solution in terms of time for a malfunctioning motherboard is to replace it, because they are not expensive and are usually too complex for the average computer user to diagnose and repair.
