Unplug A Processor From The Motherboard

A processor is the most important component of a computer.

A computer's processor is essentially the brains of the computer. It performs all the logical computations required by the computer code and returning a result; it also moves stored information from place to place. The processor sits near the middle of the motherboard and has a large heatsink and fan sitting over it, since the heat generated by the processor would destroy it if the heat wasn't quickly removed. Removing the processor isn't a difficult task, but you must be careful as you remove it, as damaging the processor will render it useless.

Instructions

1. Remove the heatsink that sits over the processor. The way to remove the heatsink will vary wildly, but most can be removed by releasing a lever on the side, unscrewing a few screws on the sides of the heatsink, or by rotating cylinders at each of the four corners of the heatsink a half-turn. Pull the heatsink up while rotating it back and forth, to separate the thermal compound that holds the heatsink to the processor. Do this process slowly to ensure you don't destroy the processor.

2. Place your finger on the metal frame around the processor. Don't push down; the finger is just there to prevent the frame from springing up too fast if you accidentally release the lever too quickly.

3. Push down on the metal lever on the side of the processor. Then push the lever away from the processor and lift it up. Move the lever all the way up, then lift up on the metal plate that you were holding in place.

4. Grab the processor on opposite sides using two fingers. Lift the processor straight up, without twisting or angling it at all.
