Abit was known for a number of computer-related technologies. SoftMenu was used to boost PC performance by approximately 50 percent by changing the settings of a computer's central processing unit (CPU) completely through its basic input/output system (BIOS). Abit's OTES technology also was an important innovation that allowed for better cooling for video graphic arrays (VGA).

History

Abit began operations in the late 1980s and was successful throughout the 1990s. The Abit brand was sold to Universal Scientific Industrial in 2006 after questionable management processes forced the company to abandon its graphic cards business due to financial issues. Universal Scientific shut down the Abit business on Dec. 21, 2008.
