Uninstall Integrated Graphics Card

Some motherboards come with both an integrated graphics card -- a card that is built in to the motherboard itself -- and an expansion slot where a dedicated graphics card can be installed. Both the integrated graphics and the dedicated graphics cannot run at the same time; before you add a new video card, you must first uninstall the integrated graphics card from the computer.

Instructions

1. Log in to Windows as an administrator. Click the "Start" button and type "devmgmt.msc" into the search box.

2. Press "Enter" to launch Device Manager. Expand "Display adapters" to see the graphics cards installed to the computer.

3. Right-click the chipset driver. Select "Uninstall" from the context menu. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove the integrated graphics card from the computer.

4. Restart the computer after removing the graphics card.

5. Press the setup key to go to the BIOS Setup Utility. Most motherboards use the "F1," "F2," "Del" or "Esc" key.

6. Use the directional pad to select the "Chipset," "Advanced" or "Advanced Options" menu. Press "Enter."

7. Go to "Initiate Graphics Adapter." Press the "+" or "-" key to change the setting from "IGD" to "PEG," "PCI" or "AGP," depending on which express slot the dedicated graphics card uses. Select "PEG" if you are using a PCI Express card.

8. Press "Esc" to return to the main menu. Use the directional pad to select the "Save and Exit" option.

9. Press "Enter," then press "Y," to save and exit.
