The ExpressCard is smaller and faster than the PC Card before it.
The ExpressCard is a multifunctional expansion platform that is not exclusive to the ASUS M50Vm-B1. The ASUS can use other expansion cards and many other notebooks incorporate ExpressCard technology.
Description
The M50Vm-B1 is a functional, though discontinued, notebook computer. Among the notebook's many features is an ExpressCard expansion slot. The ExpressCard is very compact, and even the first-generation models that were intended for the M50Vm-B1 was very versatile.
Function
The USB Implementer's Forum, which manages ExpressCard Technology, describes the ExpressCard as "modular expansion to both desktop and notebook computers..." ExpressCards can offer almost any expansion capabilities to a computer as much larger solutions.
Advantage
Space for expansion cards inside a notebook computer is either limited or nonexistent. The M50Vm-B1's ExpressCard slot offered a single slot for multiple upgrades. There was no need for larger devices, or to open the notebook's shell to install an upgrade.
