64-bit processors offer higher speeds than 32-bit processors
64-bit execution is replacing the older, 32-bit x86 instruction rapidly in today's CPU market. Essentially, having a 64-bit processor amounts to higher speeds and an overall faster computing experience when compared to its 32-bit brethren. Determining whether or not your AMD CPU is 32 or 64-bit is easily accomplished with a program called "CPUZ."
Instructions
1. Download CPUZ (see Resources) to a location you can easily remember.
2. If you downloaded the .zip version of CPUZ, extract the files to the desktop and double click the icon for CPUZ to launch the program. If you downloaded the .exe version, double click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen prompts to install the program. Make sure you create a shortcut on your desktop.
3. Double click the icon to launch the program. Under the "Instructions" dialog, check to see if "AMD64," is listed. If so, your processor is capable of running 64-bit instructions.
