Intel Core 2 Duo Vs Intel Core 2 Quad

Intel Core 2 Duo Vs. Intel Core 2 Quad

Based on the Core Microarchitecture, the multi-core processor architecture, both the Core 2 Duo and the Core 2 Quad Intel processors are an upgrade from the previous NetBurst architecture.

Commonalities

Both processors feature Virtualization technology, SSE3 and Intel's own SpeedStep technology. They are both based on the 45nm manufacturing technology.

Processor Cores

While the Intel Core 2 Duo has two independent processor cores, the Intel Core 2 Quad provides four independent execution cores in a single package.

L2 Cache

While the L2 shared cache is 6MB for high-end Core 2 Duo processors, Intel Core 2 Quad supports up to 12MB L2 cache.

SSE

While Core 2 Duo processors support up to SSE3, Core 2 Quad extends this capability to support SSE4 instruction sets.

Tips

If you are a high-end user with graphically intensive applications running simultaneously, a Core 2 Duo processor will reduce any latency, while a Core 2 Quad will allow for high game performance in a high-resolution environment.
