Update the MSI engine to update your software packages.
The MSI Engine on your Windows computer is used to install software packages on the Windows 2000 operating system. This piece of software is also known as the Microsoft Installer Engine. If your MSI engine is out-of-date or corrupted, you will not be able to update your Windows 2000 computer. Updating the MSI engine will combat this problem and allow you to easily update all the files on your Windows 2000 computer. You don't have to be a programmer to complete this update. You can do it yourself with little hassle.
Instructions
1. Click your Windows 2000 computer's Internet browser icon.
2. Go to the Microsoft website. (See Resources.)
3. Click the "Download Windows Installer 2.0" icon.
4. Wait for the download to appear on your computer's desktop and then double-click it.
5. Follow the prompts to install the software on your computer, and then restart your system for the update to take effect.
