Troubleshooting An Evga Fx 5500 Video Card

The EVGA e-GeForce FX 5500 is a graphics video card used on Windows computer systems. The card allows individuals to play video games that require power graphic cards and typically comes as an upgrade to the video card currently installed in your computer system. Although it is possible to install the card yourself, you may choose to have a computer repair facility install the card. If you ever run into an issue with the card (such as the computer isn't detecting it), you need to troubleshoot the issue before you begin playing your next video game.

Instructions

1. Check the cable connection running into the back of the card. If the cable is not connected completely, the signal from the video card does not reach the monitor.

2. Check the connection of the video card with your computer's motherboard. Power down the system, disconnect all the cables attached to the system and remove the Phillips screws connected around the back of the system. Slide open the computer case and look at where the card connects to the motherboard. Make sure the card is inserted completely into the PCI card slot. There are two plastic locking buttons on both sides of the card slot. Make sure these are pushed down to lock the card into place.

3. Delete the driver from the computer system. Often a driver no longer functions on a computer, even if the computer states it is installed properly. Click "Start," "Control Panel," "System," "Hardware" and choose the "Device Manager" button. A window of all the hardware currently installed on the computer appears. Right-click the EVGA e-GeForce FX 5500 listing, then choose "Delete." Once the driver is gone, shut down the computer system and restart it.

4. Insert the driver installation CD into the disc drive of the system. Once the installation wizard appears, follow the prompts to install the driver. With the driver newly installed, the video card should work correctly.
