Connect two hard drives to the interior of your computer.
A SATA connection is used on the interior of a computer to connect hard drives to the motherboard. Although most computers typically have two different cable connections, you may find your particular computer only has one SATA connection. This makes it hard to install two new hard drives on the computer. However, the entire issue can be corrected with a SATA splitter cable.
Instructions
1. Power down your computer and remove the cables running into the back of the system. Unscrew the screws holding the computer case into place with the Phillips screwdriver.
2. Slide the computer case open to expose the interior of the computer. At the front of the computer is the current hard drive. The SATA cable running out of the rear of the hard drive goes into the motherboard.
3. Disconnect the SATA cable from the current hard drive. There also is an open space for additional hardware directly under the hard drive. Slide in the second hard drive here.
4. Remove the SATA cable from the motherboard then insert the single end of the SATA cable splitter into the SATA connection port you just disconnected the old SATA cable from.
5. Plug the two free ends of the SATA cable into the the back connection ports on the two SATA hard drives.
6. Close the computer case, screw in the screws and insert the cables back into place.
7. Power on the computer then insert the first driver installation CD. Once the installation wizard appears, follow the prompts to install the driver for the new hard drive.
