Upgrade An Evga Motherboard Bios Without A Floppy

Compact discs are an ideal way to update the BIOS.

A motherboard is one of the most critical components inside a computer. It is the bridge between all of the computer's components and peripheral devices and also regulates how the components communicate with each other. BIOS, the computer's basic input/output system, is built into the motherboard. The BIOS tells the computer what it can and cannot do and is crucial in recognizing the computer's attached components. If you find that your EVGA's BIOS cannot recognize a certain device or is outdated, you can update it with a CD if you don't have a floppy disk drive.

Instructions

1. Download your motherboard's BIOS update from EVGA's drivers support site (see Resources). When on the site, click on "Mainboards" and, after doing so, click on "BIOS Updates." Choose your motherboard in the provided list and click on the "Continue" option. Then download the BIOS image provided under the "CD Method" section.

2. Insert a blank CD into your drive and, using image-burning software such as Nero or Alcohol 120%, burn the image onto the disc. You can leave the disc in the drive.

3. Restart your computer and, while the computer is booting, enter your BIOS settings by pressing either the "Delete," "F10" or "F2" key. Look at the screen during the booting process for options on enter the BIOS settings if these function keys do not work.

4. Change the booting order of the computer to make sure that the disc drive boots first. Locate the boot order list either in the main BIOS options or under "Advanced BIOS Features" in the BIOS settings. When there, use the onscreen instructions to place the disc drive at the top of the boot order. Then press the "Escape" key. Choose "Save Changes and Exit" to turn the computer off and to save the changes to the BIOS configurations.

5. Turn the computer on and, when prompted, press the "Y" key to begin the flashing and upgrading process. Once the process is done, remove the disc from the drive and turn the computer off. Your BIOS should now be upgraded.
