Toshiba 2410s203 Motherboard Removal Instructions

A liquid spill can cause a laptop to stop working and require a replacement motherboard.

A liquid spill or hardware failure can make it necessary to replace the motherboard or other internal components in a Toshiba Satellite 2410-S203 laptop. Removal of the motherboard is also a necessary step in most laptops when the BIOS password has to be cleared by disconnecting the internal coin cell battery. With the right procedure you can take the Satellite 2410 apart in a way that allows it to be put back together again without damaging the delicate plastic tabs and interconnections in the process.

Instructions

1. Back up any files on the computer if it still boots and operates normally.

2. Power off the Satellite 2410-S203 by clicking "Start," and choosing Shut Down instead of closing the cover or otherwise allowing the computer to go into sleep or hibernate mode. Disconnect the power cord from the outlet strip and close the lid, then flip the laptop over and remove the battery from the battery compartment.

3. Remove the cover from the memory and hard drive compartments by loosening the screws and lifting the covers up.

4. Remove the memory by gently spreading the metal retaining tabs away from the memory module and allowing the module to rise slightly in the slot, then pulling the memory straight out in the direction it is aiming.

5. Remove the screws that hold the hard drive cage in place and slide the hard drive away from the connector and out of the Toshiba 2410-S203 laptop.

6. Flip the laptop back upright and open the lid.

7. Insert the plastic knife or credit card along the small seam between the outer case and the plastic keyboard trim piece and gently pry the trim away from the case and upward until it comes loose.

8. Remove the trim and then remove the screws that are holding the keyboard in place and squeeze the outer edges of the keyboard in order to lift the keyboard about an inch up out of the case.

9. Disconnect the small ribbon cables that attach the keyboard and touchpad to the motherboard by raising the small plastic retention tab around the cable insertion point on the motherboard. Once these small tabs have been raised about an eighth of an inch the cables should freely slide out of the connectors.

10. Remove all exposed screws from the motherboard and other components and then close the lid. Flip the Toshiba Satellite 2410-S203 back onto its cover and remove all the screws from the base of the laptop.

11. Pry the edge of the case apart gently using the plastic knife or credit card and focusing on the small tabs that are evenly spaced around the perimeter of the laptop. Separate the top of the case from the bottom and flip the laptop right side up.

12. Open the lid and remove the top case from the bottom case, exposing the motherboard. Remove any additional screws holding the motherboard in place. Disconnect the cables leading to the video, audio and peripheral connectors and any other cables connecting to the motherboard.

13. Remove the optical drive and lift the motherboard out of the case.
