Asus used EZFlash early on to allow flashing of the motherboard BIOS without having to boot into DOS.


Asus is a leading worldwide manufacturer of motherboards. The Asus K8V-XE was an early 64-bit processor manufactured by Advanced Micro Division (AMD), using socket 754. This particular motherboard was sold in the United Kingdom and used the standard ATX format. Asus kept the cost of this board down, yet still designed it with dual RAID for those needing extra RAID storage.


CPU


The Asus K8V-XE motherboard comes with an AMD socket 754. This socket will run Athlon 64, Sempron 64 and Turion 64 processors with speeds equivalent to 4.4 gigahertz.


Memory


The Asus K8V-XE motherboard supports up to 3 gigabytes of DDR400 memory. Most 32-bit computer systems come with 1 to 2 gigabytes of memory; this board was designed to give you more memory if needed for special applications.


Expansion


The K8V-SE motherboard comes with a PCIe 16X expansion slot for your video card, giving you plenty of speed for your most demanding games. It also comes with two PCIe X1 and three PCI expansion slots to cover other essentials such as a better-quality sound card, a network card, or an SCSI card, among others.


Storage


This motherboard comes with support plenty of storage. One of its main selling points was the capability for dual RAID control. This means that two connected hard drives can work in unison to make applications run faster. There are four serial ATA and two UltraDMA 133 plugs available.


Other Features


The Asus K8V-XE board also comes with eight USB 2.0 ports and an ALC660 six channel codec for audio with a S/PDIF output interface for easy external speaker hookup.
