List of Laptop Processors
Laptops can vary in performance and price, usually each being directly related with each other. One big factor in a computer's capabilities is the speed of its processor. Although you can buy a gaming desktop computer with a 4 GHz processor, unfortunately, technology has not allowed users to be able to transfer that onto a laptop. Processors in our portable machines can top off at about 2.6 GHz. Even with this disadvantage, laptops are still very popular, and there is definitely a market. With different tech companies competing for the number one spot, it's no wonder we've been able to advance so rapidly.
Big Name Processors
When it comes to processors in both laptops and desktops, Intel has been a defending champ in all aspects of the computing industry. Here is a list of their processors, from the first, to the latest:
Intel 486 SL Processor (33MHz)
Intel DX4 Processor (100MHz)
Intel Pentium Line (500-1.6GHz)
Intel Core Line (1.6-2.0 GHz)
Intel Core Duo Line (2.0-2.63GHz)
Third-Party Companies
Although companies like Intel dominate the market, smaller, less known companies can still compete. Companies like Microsoft, AMD, and Metrowerks all make processors, but with less pizazz than its competing company. Although they have been left in the dust of the Intel processors, don't ever rule them out if they pop up in a laptop, as it may just be a better buy.
The History of Mobile Processors
From the beginning of laptops, processors have always been the backbone of computers. With the first ones coming out at a top speed of 30 MHz, to today's standards of at least a 1.5 GHz speed, processors have been continuously upgraded since the 1980's. Who knows what will come in the next 20 years.
