Socket 462 Information

Socket A, better known as Socket 462, is a pin grid array socket designed to be used with AMD K7 computer microprocessors. Socket 462 also is compatible with other AMD processors.

Processors

In addition to the AMD K7 family of processors, Socket 462 is compatible with AMD Athlon and Duron processors with speeds ranging between 600 and 2200 MHz (3200+) and bus frequencies from 100 to 200 MHz (400 MHz DDR), according to CPU World.

Motherboards

Socket 462 fits most CPU motherboards, but may not be compatible with every motherboard it fits. To determine motherboard and Socket 462 compatibility, it is best to check the motherboard manufacturer's website for compatibility information.

Specifications

Socket 462 contains 462 pin holes, 11 of them plugged, and measures 2.2-by-2.58 inches, making it nearly identical to the Socket 7/Super Socket 7. The fastest CPUs compatible with Socket A include the Athlon A1400AMS3C and A1400AMS3B. The Duron 1800 DHD1800DLV1C and the Mobile Athlon XP-M 3000+ CPUs also are recommended because of their speed.
