My Usb Port Doesn'T Work On An Asus Motherboard

There are several reasons why a USB port is not working on an Asus motherboard.

All Asus motherboards produced in the past 10 years have USB ports on them. Different Asus motherboards differ in the number and kind of ports offered. In most cases, these ports can be enabled or disabled on the motherboard's BIOS setup screen. There are several procedures that can be used to find out why a USB port is malfunctioning.

Ports Turned Off in BIOS

One common reason for a USB port to appear to be nonworking on an Asus motherboard is due to the port (or entire USB controller) being disabled in the motherboard's BIOS setup screen. By pressing the "Del" key during bootup, you can enter the BIOS setup screen and ensure the USB port is enabled.

Bad Port

In some cases, the port on the motherboard may be bad. This may be the individual port or the entire USB section of the Asus motherboard. Try to use a different USB port to see if the device works. If none of the ports are working, the motherboard itself may be bad.

USB Device Bad

If the USB device doesn't work on any of the available USB ports, the possibility exists that the USB device itself is bad. Plug the USB device into another computer to verify. If the device does not work on a different computer, chances are the device itself is bad and the Asus motherboard is okay.

Drivers Not Installed

In some rare cases, the issue may be that the drivers for the USB controller on the Asus motherboard have not been installed. For example, as of 2011 the USB 3.0 standard is increasing in popularity, yet because this technology was just recently introduced, many operating systems do not yet have the software drivers for USB 3.0 natively installed. To find out if this is the case, try plugging the USB device into a regular USB 2.0 port to see if it is recognized.
