What Kind Of Ram Is Required For An Asus P5k Vm Motherboard

The motherboard is the unit that holds the processor and RAM modules in your computer.

Asus is a computer hardware company based in Taiwan. According to the company's website, Asus comes from the last four letters of the word Pegasus. Pegasus was the winged horse from Greek mythology.

Types

The P5K-VM motherboard can support up to four modules of DIMM DDR2 1066/800/667. Frequencies supported are PC2-5300, PC2-6400 and PC2-8500. Each slot can take up to 2 GB of RAM, for a total of 8 GB. The RAM should be unbuffered and non-ECC. The motherboard does support dual channel memory.

Considerations

If you are running a 32-bit version of Windows, your computer may not recognize more than 3 GB of RAM. If you want to install more than 3 GB, you need to replace your operating system with a 64-bit version.

Expert Insight

According to the manufacturer, the motherboard only supports up to DDR2 800, but can be altered with manufacturer support to use DDR2 1066. You can install RAM modules one at a time, and you can mix densities. However, when installing dual channel memory, you should install matched pairs for optimum performance.
