Windows 7 is the next version of Windows just after Windows Vista. Windows 7 comes in two different versions, 32-bit and 64-bit. When choosing a video card that is compatible with Windows 7, it's important to take into account the bit version. Some video cards may only work with 32-bit, and others with 64 bit. Depending on the manufacturer of the card, compatibility options vary greatly; not all video cards are compatible with Windows 7.
GeForce
Many GeForce cards from various manufacturers are compatible with Windows 7, reports Microsoft.com. Some of the compatible GeForce cards include PNY Nvidia GeForce 9400 GT 1GB graphics card, PNY GDDR2 Nvidia GeForce 8500 GS graphics card, XFX GeForce 260 GTX 896MB DDR3 standard graphics card, XFX GeForce 285 GTX DDR3 1GB graphics card and EVGA e-GeForce 6200 256MB graphics card. These are some of the more advanced GeForce cards, and the majority of them are compatible with both the 32-bit and 64-bit version of Windows 7.
ASUS
ASUS cards compatible with either the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 include ASUS A9550GE TD 256MB graphics card, ASUS A9550GE TD graphics card, ASUS ATI Radeon 9250 TD graphics card, Asus ATI Radeon A9250 128MB graphics card and ASUS ATI Radeon HD 4350 512MB graphics card. Unlike GeForce cards, however, many of the ASUS cards are not compatible with both Windows 7 bit-rate versions.
Gigabyte
Certain Gigabyte manufactured cards are compatible with the 64-bit version of Windows 7 only, and include the GV-RX165T256D-RH 256MB graphics card, Gigabyte GV-RX16P128P-RH 128MB graphics card and the Gigabyte GV-RX195X521VB-RH 512MB graphics card.
Two Gigabyte produced cards that are compatible with both Windows 7 bit-rate versions are the Gigabyte Technology GV-N95TD3-512I GeForce 9500 GT PCIe graphics card and the Gigabyte Technology GV-NX84S512HP GeForce 8400 GS PCIe 512MB graphics card. Although Gigabyte manufactures many different compatible Windows 7 cards, the features from each card (such as slot type and output compatibility) vary greatly.
