Update the Phoenix BIOS to get your computer working again.
The Phoenix BIOS, or Basic Input Output System, WPH list is used to load the operating system on a Windows-based computer. This system allows the computer to keep time when it is turned off and to load the boot sequence on the computer. If you are experiencing time differentials on your computer, you may need to update Phoenix BIOS. Updating this will improve the computer's functionality and stability.
Instructions
1. Download the latest BIOS update from the motherboard manufacturer's website. You can find out who manufactured the motherboard by opening the computer tower and making a note of the motherboard's serial number. This is usually found next to the main processor in the middle of the motherboard.
2. Double-click on the BIOS update from the computer's desktop and run the software. If you cannot update the BIOS from within the operating system, insert a USB flash drive into the computer's USB port.
3. Click the "Computer" icon and then double-click on the USB flash drive. Drag the BIOS update into the new window that appears to transfer the update to the flash drive.
4. Reboot the computer and follow the BIOS instructions on startup. Look for the directions to enter the BIOS while the computer is starting up, before the Windows logo appears. This will typically read "Press F8 To Enter BIOS" or something similar.
5. Go to the "Boot" menu and use the arrow keys to change the "Primary Boot Device" to the USB port.
6. Scroll over to the "Save and Exit" button and then press the "Enter" key. Wait for the computer to reboot. Follow the update prompts as the computer boots from the USB device.
