Toshiba Satellite Specs

Toshiba Satellite laptops are used at home and in the office.

From the 11.6-inch T210 to the 18.4-inch widescreen HD P500, Toshiba designed the Satellite family of computers to accommodate all manner of computing needs, from home multimedia entertainment to advanced office records keeping and network connectivity. Because of this variety, many of the features of Toshiba Satellite laptop computers differ from computer to computer.

Processors

Toshiba Satellite computers use either AMD or Intel microprocessors in their computers, depending on the Satellite model. Intel processors range from the Centrino and Pentium Mobile single core processors, which are good for basic computing and office functions, to the Intel Core II Duo and Intel Core i5 processors with multiple processing cores good for multitasking, gaming and video playback. AMD processors used in Toshiba Satellites range from the single core Sempron SI-42 and Athlon II Neo Processor K125, good for basic computing, to the Turion Mobile Dual Core or the Phenom II Triple core processors that make multitasking and more advanced gaming possible.

Windows

Whether you purchase one of the top-performing Toshiba Satellites such as the Satellite E205-S1980 or the basic model Satellite L455D-S5976, all Satellite laptops include the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system. This operating system comes in either 32 or 64-bit versions and provides a highly customizable user interface along with advanced security features such as Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. Additionally, this operating system is designed for compatibility and includes an "Auto-detect Hardware" program that both detects and installs newly implanted hardware from extra RAM to external hard drives connected via USB 2.0. Microsoft Windows operating systems are also compatible with thousands of games, utilities and other software.

Software

Beyond the Microsoft Windows operating system, Satellite computers also come with a suite of software extras designed by Toshiba to make media and calendar organization easier. Toshiba Bulletin Board, for example, creates a virtual board on the desktop to help you keep track of dates, bill payments and other essentials while Reel Time helps you find necessary files and folders by creating a "Reel" of thumbnails depicting each file based on when it was last opened. Additionally, the Toshiba Media Controller allows you to create home-based networks that stream music and video between computers and other media devices.

Body Style

Although Toshiba Satellite laptops come in varied sizes, most have optional lid colors and many have the option to add accents, textured finished or even backlit keyboards. Not only does the ability to customize the body of the computer give you freedom to select an individual style, it also helps distinguish the specific Satellite laptop from other similar models.
