Socket 462 Compatible Chipsets

Socket A processors are common in the IT industry.

Socket 462, or socket A, is a standard for processor sockets on legacy motherboards. Socket 462 was created around the AMD K7 line of processors, which includes the AMD Athlon, Athlon MP, Athlon XP, Duron and Sempron desktop processors and the Mobile Athlon 4, XP-M, Duron, and Geode NX mobile processors. Chipsets were developed by three major companies to use the socket 462: Silicon Integrated Systems, VIA Technologies and NVIDIA.

VIA KT400

The KT400 chipset includes support for DDR 333 SDRAM, 8X AGP, ATA-133 and USB 2.0. The KT400 chipset was built for the AMD Athlon XP processor after the success of its predecessor, the KT333 chipset. In addition to its enhanced video and USB support, the KT400 chipset also supports integrated PCI support, 10/100 onboard Ethernet, surround sound with the AC'97 audio chip, maximum front-side and system bus speeds of 333Mhz, 4 gigabytes of memory and advanced power-management technologies.

VIA KT880

The KT880 chipset is VIA's flagship chipset for socket 462 systems. KT880 supports up to 8 gigabytes of dual channel DDR memory and 150 MB/s SATA devices, multi-channel audio, a 400Mhz front-side bus for fast communication between the memory and processor, gigabit Ethernet for speedy data transfers, and 8x AGP. For data integrity, the KT880 supports RAID 0, 1 and 0+1.

SiS741GX/964

The SiS741GX/964 system architecture includes support for 3 gigabytes of DDR memory, providing plenty of room for upgrades, 10/100 Ethernet to keep your system connected, 6 PCI ports for maximum versatility, 8 USB 2.0 ports for all those peripherals, 2 SATA ports for 150Mb/s transfer speeds, ATA 133 to support your legacy hard drives, 8X AGP for 3-d graphics, and a 400Mhz front-side bus.

NVIDA nForce2

NVIDIA's nForce 2 chipset attempts to fulfill the needs of all users, from video game enthusiasts to digital media professionals. NForce2 supports up to 6 USB 2.0 ports for maximum connectivity, 10/100/1000 Ethernet communication so no packets are lost, dual ATA-133 disk controllers for lightning fast data transfers, an AC'97 audio codec for the discerning listener, support for RAID 0, 1 and 0+1, and 2 SATA connections at 150Mb/s.
