Update Drivers For Gateway Computers

Update Gateway drivers using the Gateway drivers and downloads page.

As you install new programs and updates to your Gateway computer, you may periodically find it necessary to update the drivers in your Gateway computer to solve driver conflict errors. Gateway makes it simple to update any drivers in your computer by entering the unique serial number for your computer or by individually searching for specific drivers.

Instructions

1. Click "Start" and type "devmgmt.msc" into the search box. Press "Enter." This opens the Device Manager in Windows 7.

2. Scroll through the list of installed devices and search for any device that has a small yellow sign with an exclamation point in it. This signals a device that currently conflicts with installed software or updates. Make a note of this particular device.

3. Open your computer browser and visit the "Gateway Drivers and Download" page. Click the "Browse all downloads" tab. Alternatively, you can locate the 10-22 digit serial number for your Gateway computer, enter it into the appropriate field and click "Go." Note that you can find the serial number on the top, right or back of the tower on desktop computers and on the bottom of laptop computers. Skip to step 8 if you choose to enter the serial number instead of looking up the driver manually.

4. Click the drop-down menu for "Product Type" and select either "Desktop" or "Notebook" computers.

5. Click the drop-down menu for "Product Model" and scroll through the list until you locate your computer model. Note that this information is located on the front of your tower.

6. Click the drop-down menu for "Operating System" and choose the version of Windows that is loaded on your Gateway computer.

7. Click the drop-down menu for "File Type" and choose the driver that most accurately matches the driver that you are having trouble with. Refer to your Device Manager if you are unsure.

8. Click "Display Results" and scroll through the list until you find the most recent driver. Click the hyperlinked text of the driver that you choose and then click "Download Now." Click "Save File" and save the file to your computer desktop.

9. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the new driver. Restart the computer once installation has finished.

10. Return to the Device Manager and ensure that the new driver fixed the conflict error by checking for any yellow signs with exclamation points.
