Update & Configure The Bios

The computer BIOS is actually stored on a very small chip on the motherboard.

Keeping your BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) up to date ensures that you are able to maximize the abilities of your computer. Sometimes a BIOS update will allow you to use more memory or boot from a CD. Other times a BIOS update will fix a bug found to make sure you don't have future problems. Since the BIOS is the first program that runs on your computer, it is essential to keep it up to date.

Instructions

1. Type msinfo32 into your Microsoft Windows 7 search bar and verify which version of system BIOS you currently have installed.

2. Navigate to your computer or motherboards manufacturers website and look for the most current BIOS driver available. Download it and any documentation that comes with it.

3. Read the accompanying documentation for any special instructions that need to be taken care of before installing the updated BIOS. The documentation will also include a list of fixes included with the update.

4. Close all programs and double-click the downloaded .exe file to run the update. A computer reboot will be required.

5. Press the "F2" (Some motherboards use a different key or sequence to enter the BIOS, check documentation that came with your computer if necessary) key during the boot up process to enter the BIOS menu.

6. Press the arrow keys to navigate through menus in the BIOS. Press "Enter" to make a selection. Save and quit to keep your configuration changes. This will automatically reboot your system.
