What Is A Barebone Pc

What Is a Barebone PC?

A barebones PC is a good starter package if you want to build your own computer or learn build a computer. A barebones PC is not a complete computer and is often sold as a kit and at computer shows.

Definition

A barebones PC is a very minimal amount of computer components to start the process of building a PC. It often includes only a case, motherboard, CPU and RAM.

Other components

What you'll need to complete a barebones PC are a hard drive, optical drives (DVD or CD), video card, sound card and network card. You will also need peripherals such as monitor, keyboard and a mouse.

Concept

Barebones PCs are sold as a unit because the components are dependent on each other. Motherboards can only take certain memory types and certain CPU types, but once you have these components set you can use a wide variety of other components to add to the core components.

Use

Barebones PCs are considered more of a basic building block for those who want to build their own PC and not as a computer that an average user can buy and use out of the box.

Cost

Barebones PCs are often cheaper than buying the components separately but shouldn't be compared to buying a regular branded computer. Because the rest of the components will be individually purchased, and at higher prices, a user-made PC can be more expensive.
