The MP965 uses 2.5 inch drives to accomodate its small case.
The Aopen MP965 is a bare-bones miniPC kit that uses Intel brand processors and graphics. Since this computer is a bare bones system, it does not come with a processor, RAM or video card. There are two versions of this computer that support slightly different features. The MP965-D is the basic version of this desktop computer. The MP965-D supports the exact same features as the D version but also includes an HDMI port and an infrared indicator.
Processing
The motherboard included with the MP965 supports Intel Core 2 Duo and Celeron processors compatible with the Socket P processor socket. This computer supports processors with a Front Side Bus rated at 533, 667 or 800 megahertz. The on-board chipset of the motherboard uses the Intel GM965 and ICH8M processor chipsets for the north and south bridges. These chipsets control how data is shunted between the internal components of the computer and impact the overall speed and features supported by this system.
Memory
The MP965 uses dual-channel memory modules. It can support up to two SO DIMM modules compatible with the DDR2 memory standard rated at 533 or 667 MHz. The motherboard used in this system supports a total of four gigabytes of memory however the system is only capable of detecting up to two gigabytes of memory due limitations imposed by the motherboard chipset.
Multimedia
The MP965 uses an integrated video chipset provided by the GM965 processor on the motherboard. The integrated graphics chipset is known as the Intel GMA X3100. It supports video output through a single DVI-I port and a multi-TV out port that supports Composite, S-Video and Y-Pb-Pr video output. Analog computer monitors using the VGA video standard are also supported but require a DVI-I to VGA adapter. Audio output on the MP965 is handled by an on-board Realtek ALC888 HD audio controller that supports 5.1 channel surround sound.
Ports and Bays
Only two expansion slots are provided by the MP965. These slots are compatible with the mini Card expansion slot specification typically used on laptop computers. This computer includes a number of ports including a IEEE 1394 port and four USB 2.0 ports. Analog audio is supported through solitary line-in, line-out and microphone ports. Digital high-definition audio output is supported by a single S/PDIF optical audio port. This computer also supports a maximum of two Serial ATA drives with room for one 2.5 inch optical drive and one 2.5 inch hard drive.
Power and Networking
The MP965 uses an on-board network interface controller compatible with 10, 100 and 1,000 megabit per second Ethernet connections through an on-board RJ-45 Ethernet port. Power for the computer is supplied by a 90W power supply rated at 19V and 4.74 amps.
