Ideas For A Trifold Display Board

Tri-fold display boards let you present pictures, charts and other information all on one large cardboard-like display and also allows you to change the information with little effort. These boards are available at office supply, retail superstores and online. When setting up a tri-fold display board, the first step is planning what you want to showcase on the board. Failure to plan and execute a clear idea of what you want to display can lead to an ineffective presentation.

Photo Collage and 3-D Objects

One idea for your tri-fold display board is to create a photo collage on one or more of the board's panels instead of using single photos. The collage still needs to relate to your display board's overall theme, but you can be creative by using colorful photos and varying the size of your collages. If available, use 3-D objects related to the information you are presenting on your display board. If your board is showcasing information about outer space, display a model of the solar system by mounting a shelf on the board and sitting the model on the shelf.

Mixed-Media Display

Another idea for your tri-fold display board is to include a portable DVD or video player as part of your presentation. Use a DVD/Video player that contains its own monitor and place it in front of your display board. Insert a disc containing information relating to your display board's theme. If you have extra copies of the disc, place them next to the player so viewers can take a copy of the presentation with them.

Mixture of Elements

Add a color background to any pictures, charts, text printouts or graphics displayed on the board by placing a piece of construction paper behind the objects. When placing text printouts on your display board, make sure the text's font and font size is large and legible. Don't be afraid to use both color and black/white text - this helps draw in viewers.

Headers

Create a header that displays the title of the presentation, theme or project you are showcasing on your tri-fold display board. The header sits on top of the display board and draws in viewers. Cover a piece of cardboard or foamboard with paper that matches or contrasts your display board's color and then add your lettering. Be creative and display two or three photographs or graphics on the header to spice it up.

Decorating The Surface Under The Board

Another idea for your tri-fold display board is to place it on a table or other surface and decorate not only the board, but also the surface it is sitting on as well as the surrounding area. This is ideal if you are hosting a party and you have a theme that you want to flow throughout the event space.

Paper

Instead of using construction or butcher paper to cover your tri-fold display board, use scrapbook paper that contains a pattern relating to your display board's theme. If your theme is computer science, look for paper that contains a series of "0"s and "1"s or pictures of computer components. Scrapbook paper is found at retail superstores, office supply, discount and craft stores as well as online.

Balloons and Add-Ons

Add balloons, items relating your tri-fold display board's theme, ribbons and other add-ons to your display board to attract viewers from across the room or area. Vary the items higher and lower on the board, but don't over do it-you don't want the add-ons to overshadow the theme you are presenting.
