The Gigabyte X58 Extreme is a triple-channel memory motherboard.
Triple channel is a new random access memory (RAM) technology in computers that is a theoretical improvement over dual-channel architecture. If your motherboard, processor and RAM are compatible with the technology, you can utilize it to increase peak data transfer rate.
Triple Channel Memory
The purpose of triple channel is to reduce latency in the communication between your processor and RAM. This is accomplished by spreading data among three memory modules. Rather than waiting for one module to fill up before moving on to the next, small bits of data are spread across all three, simultaneously filling all of them up at once.
Corsair
For the purposes of compatibility, Corsair triple-channel memory will work with any motherboard that accepts triple-channel memory.
X58 Extreme
Gigabyte's X58 Extreme motherboard does support triple channel processors and RAM. It will accept triple channel Corsair RAM, or any other triple-channel memory that you insert three of. However, if you only insert two, the system will operate in dual-channel mode.
