MSI has been a major player in the computer hardware industry for decades, but has more recently broken into the general market as a result of diversification of its product lines. One of these products is the 945P Neo3 motherboard. While somewhat dated, it is still a viable option for most computing needs.
General Specifications
The MSI 945P Neo3 is an ATX-type motherboard supporting Intel 945P Express/Intel ICH7 chipsets. It has a max bus speed of 1066 MHz and features a single LGA775 Socket compatible with Pentium 4, Pentium D, Core 2 Duo and Celeron D processors. The maximum supported amount of RAM for the card is 4.0 Gigabytes of DDR2 SDRAM at up to 667 MHz with dual channel architecture. The onboard audio component is an eight-channel high definition card using the Realtek ALC850 codec.

Besides the processor slot, the MSI 945P Neo3 includes 4.0 by PCI Express by 16 slots, 4.0 by PCI Express by 1 slots and 1.0 by PCI slot. The motherboard also has a number of serial ATA connectors. These include 4 by 7 pin Serial ATA-300 ports compatible with up to second generation devices and one ATA-100 1 by 40 pin IDC compatible with up to fourth generation devices. These allow a reasonable number of storage devices to be used with this motherboard.

The motherboard has a large number of interface ports, including 1.0 by Network line-out (center/subwoofer) , six pin mini-DIN ports in a PS/2-style configuration, 1.0 by Microphone port and 1.0 by audio RS-232 stereo 3.5 mm. External drive and media interfaces include one floppy drive interface, 1.0 by 3.5 mm headphone port, 4.0 by mouse four-pin MPC inputs, 1.0 by storage TOSLINK line-in, 1.0 by keyboard SPDIF output and 1.0 by hi-speed USB port. Additionally, there is one four-pin USB Type A and 1.0 by Ethernet 10Base-T/100Base-TX/1000Base-T six-pin mini-DIN (PS/2 style).
Additional Connections and Miscellaneous Information
In addition to all listed interfaces, the device has an additional 4.0 by hi-speed USB ports. The power supply utilizes a four-pin ATX12V connector and a 24-pin main power connector. BIOS features built into the motherboard include DMI support, ACPI 2.0 support and hyper-threading capability. The MSI 945P Neo3 is complaint with ACPI 2.0 and Plug and Play labels. It measures 8.9 inches by 11.8 inches, width and depth.
