Tell If Its the Motherboard or the CPU That's Dead
Dealing with a broken computer can be among the most frustrating experiences you encounter. Whether it's for personal use or work, computers are now a critical part of everyday life, so when they don't work, the disruption can bring your life to a near standstill. If you take care of your own computers, it's important for you to know diagnose problems and determine which part is faulty so you can replace it.
Instructions
1. If your computer can boot up, try running the diagnostics program provided by your motherboard manufacturer. Nearly all motherboard manufacturers make such programs available on their websites.
2. Remove the CPU from your computer, and try turning it on without one. The computer will not boot like this; but if the computer reacts the same way as it does with the CPU in, the CPU is probably the problem.
3. Try booting up with a different CPU in place-one from a system that works. If this fixes your problem, the issues is with the CPU.
4. Try replacing the motherboard, and using your original CPU. If this fixes your problem, the motherboard is faulty. If it does not, there is either some other component of your computer that is broken, or your motherboard and CPU are both broken.
