What Kind Of Processor Is In The E5300

The E5300 is a processor from the mid-range Intel Pentium brand of semiconductor company Intel Corp. It made its debut in 2008, at a time when Intel's Core brand had assumed the role from the Pentium as the company's flagship consumer-oriented option, and the Pentium was referred to as "Pentium Dual-Core." Thus, the E5300 is sometimes called the Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5300. It is one of the higher-end central processing units of the Dual-Core family, which was discontinued in 2010.

General Description and Manufacture

The E5300 is branded a "Dual-Core" processor because it has two cores, or processing units. Intel used the 45-nanometer manufacturing process to make the chip. Both cores are placed on a thin wafer of semiconductor material called a die, which measures 82 square millimeters and contains 228 million processor transistors. Like other Pentium Dual-Core CPUs, the E5300 is used in desktop personal computers.

Speeds

The Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5300 has a core speed, the rate at which it performs its major tasks; as well as front-side bus speed, the rate at which it interfaces with the motherboard using the front-side bus interface. Its core speed and FSB speed are 2.6GHz and 800MHz, respectively.

Cache and Power Consumption

Each Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5300 has two caches: a Level 1 cache and Level 2 cache. The CPU relies on these tiny components for high-speed access to the desktop PC's most frequently used data. Intel lists the L2 cache as offering 2MB. Regarding power consumption, the E5300's maximum thermal design power is 65 watts.

Technologies

The Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5300 uses Intel 64, Intel Corp.'s implementation of the 64-bit instruction set for x86 architecture-based processors. Other technologies include Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology for enhancing performance without sacrificing energy efficiency and Execute Disable Bit for anti-virus and malicious-code protection.
