S5 Pro Tips

The S5 Pro is a 12.3 megapixel digital SLR camera released by Fuji in 2007. A member of the FinePix family of cameras, the S5 Pro was created for professional photographers. The S5 Pro is the successor to the S3 Pro and boasts several improvements, including additional shutter speed customization, 11 point auto focus sensor, a 2.5-inch LCD screen and face detection technology.

Shutter-Priority Auto

When taking pictures of a moving object, you can control how the photograph will look by adjusting the shutter speed. When using a faster shutter speed, the resulting photograph will show the subject as if it were suspended. When using a slower shutter speed, the resulting photograph will blur showing the motion.

"Shutter-Priority Auto" on the S5 Pro allows you to manually set the shutter speed while the camera sets the aperture according to the shot conditions. The shutter can be set from 30 seconds to 1/8000 seconds, giving photographers a wide range of photo options. To enter "Shutter-Priority Auto," press and hold the "Mode" button while rotating the main control dial until the indicator screen reads "S." Release the "Mode" button and turn the main control dial to adjust the shutter speed. When set, take the photograph as normal.

Aperture-Priority Auto

The S5 Pro also allows the photographer to manually set the aperture while the camera sets the shutter speed. "Aperture-Priority Auto" mode is ideal for photographs where the subject of the shot is the primary focus and the background can be made blurry or focused. This adds a layer of creativity to the shot that is not normally available on compact digital cameras. A higher aperture focuses the background of the shot while a lower aperture blurs the background. To enter "Auto-Priority Auto" mode, press and hold the "Mode" button while rotating the main control dial until the indicator screen reads "A." Release the "Mode" button and turn the main control dial to adjust the aperture value. You can take a photograph as normal when the aperture is set.

Practice

Many photographers new to digital SLR cameras will find it difficult to get used to the control they have over the camera's settings. Making changes to the settings, such as the shutter speed and aperture, can have a drastic effect of the resulting picture, and a new photographer may feel lost. The S5 Pro, however, is easy to use, and new photographers will find practice with adjusting the settings in different conditions will help with the learning curve. Experienced photographers will also find that practice helps them take the best quality pictures possible.
