Smart Fan Control automatically adjusts the fan speed depending on how hot your computer is.
All computers use a CPU fan to cool the Central Processing Unit so that it doesn't overheat. Smart Fan Control automatically adjusts the fan speed depending on the temperature of the CPU.
CPU Cooling
If it isn't properly cooled, the CPU will overheat and become permanently damaged. Standard fan control settings simply set the fan to run at a constant speed all the time that the computer is on.
Smart Fan Control
Smart Fan Control will automatically adjust the fan speed so that it runs faster when the CPU is hotter to maintain the CPU at a constant temperature without running the fan constantly. This normally involves setting a minimum and maximum fan speed, as well as a high and low CPU temperature. At the low temperature, the fan will start running at the minimum fan speed. The fan speed will vary in line with the CPU temperature until it reaches the high CPU temperature.
Setting Fan Control
Smart Fan Control can be enabled or disabled, as well as having its settings changed, from within your computer's BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) settings. The fan settings will usually be found under the "CPU," "Advanced," or "Overclocking" options.
