The Asrock P4vm800 Motherboard Types Of Memory That Work

The P4MV800 motherboard has two memory module slots.

The P4VM800 motherboard is manufactured by ASRock Inc. The corporate headquarters for ASRock are in Taipei, Taiwan. ASRock specializes in motherboards, and leads the field in overclocking technology. The P4VM800 motherboard was first manufactured in 2005. This system board has a type 478 socket for an Intel Pentium 4 Processor.

DDR RAM

The P4VM800 motherboard has two sockets open for system memory modules. The compatible memory type is DDR SDRAM or double data rate synchronous dynamic random access memory. DDR RAM effectively doubles the speed of the motherboard's front side bus. This type of RAM runs twice as fast as SDRAM.

PC-2700

One of the speeds of DDR RAM that is compatible with the P4VM800 motherboard is PC-2700. PC-2700 is also known as DDR 333 because it has a speed of 333 MHz. To fit this motherboard the PC-2700 DIMMs (dual inline memory modules) must have 184 pins. Pins, also called leads, are the gold stripes at the base of a memory module that connect the module to the motherboard RAM socket. The modules must be unbuffered or unregistered. Registered or buffered RAM is easily recognized by the additional smaller chip on the memory module that acts as a buffer between the system memory and the CPU. This motherboard does not support ECC memory. Capacities of PC-2700 which can be installed include: 256 MB, 512 MB, and 1 GB modules. The maximum amount of PC-2700 that can be installed in the P4VM800 motherboard is 2 GB.

PC-3200

Another speed of DDR SDRAM that will work with the P4VM800 motherboard is PC-3200. Also called DDR 400, PC-3200 has a speed of 400 MHz. The PC-3200 must have 184 pins to connect to this motherboard. The DIMMs should be non-ECC and unbuffered (unregistered). PC-3200 densities which will fit this board include: 256 MB, 512 MB, and 1 GB. The greatest amount of PC-3200 that can be installed on the P4VM800 system board is 2 GB.

Mixing Modules

Because the P4VM800 system board does not support dual channel memory architecture, mixing modules is acceptable. The modules can be of different speeds, meaning a DIMM of PC-2700 can be used with a DIMM of PC-3200. Different capacity modules can be utilized together as well. For optimum performance, however, you should install the maximum speed and density of RAM in the system board.
