Upgrade A G50vt Processor

The main component controlling your laptop's speed is the internal processor connected to the socket on the motherboard. Your Asus G50VT laptop comes with a Socket P Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 2.53 GHz processor. Eventually that processor may not be able to keep up with new programs and you may notice much slower speeds while installing software or running different programs. Upgrading the Core 2 Duo with a newer Socket P compatible processor increases your laptop's performance.

Instructions

1. Turn off your Asus laptop and remove any cables connected to the computer's ports. Shut the lid and rotate the laptop so the bottom part of the case is facing you. Slide the bar at the left side of the case toward the right and pull out the rectangular battery pack.

2. Remove the Phillips-head screw above the empty battery port and pull the plastic cover off the Asus laptop. Disconnect the cable attached to the side of the black cooling fan. Remove the three screws holding the fan to the motherboard.

3. Lift the cooling fan out of the laptop. Turn the laptop over and open the lid so the keyboard is facing you. Slide the edge of a flat-head screwdriver into the slot above the "Esc" key to unlock the first keyboard latch.

4. Unlock the remaining keyboard locking latches above the "F4," "F8" and "Delete" keys. Pull up the top of the keyboard and unplug the connecting cable running from the bottom edge of the keyboard to the rectangular port on the motherboard.

5. Pull the keyboard off the Asus laptop and remove the four screws holding the metal shield plate in place. Lift the plate off the laptop and locate the processor near the top of the motherboard.

6. Insert the edge of your flat-head screwdriver into the metal locking screw above the Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Rotate the screw counterclockwise and pull the Intel processor off the motherboard.

7. Set your new Socket P compatible processor over the socket and push down. Turn the locking screw clockwise with a flat-head screwdriver. Use the thermal cooling paste applicator to cover the top of the processor with a small amount of cooling paste.

8. Reconnect the Asus laptop's metal shield, keyboard, cooling fan, plastic cover and battery. Plug in the laptop's power cable and turn on the laptop.
