Intel Pentium Iii Processor History

Intel's Pentium III family of processors was introduced in 1999 and was discontinued in 2003, as the company transitioned to more powerful processors. Improvements to Pentium III processors were made over the span of five years. Processors were also made specifically for servers, notebooks, laptops and desktops.

1999

Intel launched the first desktop Pentium III processor in February 1999. The first processor had clock speeds that ranged from 450 MHz to 600 MHz. By October, Intel created desktop Pentium III processors with clock speeds up to 1.13 GHz. Intel also launched its first Mobile Pentium III processor in October 1999.

2000

In January 2000, Intel introduced the Mobile Pentium III processor, which offered Intel's Speed Step technology. By June, this processor was offered with clock speeds of 1 GHz. The desktop Pentium III offered 1 GHz in May. Intel introduced the Low Voltage Mobile Intel Pentium III processor in June of 2000.

2001

In July 2001, Intel introduced the Pentium III Notebook processor M for desktops and the Mobile Pentium III processor M at clock speeds of 1.33 GHz and 1.2 GHz, respectively.

2002

In January 2002, Intel introduced the Pentium III processor for servers. The desktop Pentium III processor offered clock speeds of 1.40 GHz. In April 2002, Intel introduced the Ultra Low Voltage Mobile Pentium III processor M with clock speeds up to 866 MHz.

2003

The last Pentium III processor introduced by Intel, in 2003, was the Ultra Low Voltage Mobile Pentium III processor M, which offered clock speeds of 933 MHz.
