HD TVs are great for viewing movies or playing video games.
TVs come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and unfortunately they can also bring along an an equal variety of problems. If your Vizio TV is displaying an inaccurate image for some reason, this is usually related to the TV's own setup, and often you can correct the issue by making a few adjustments.
Picture Settings
If the picture's brightness or colors look a bit wrong to you, adjusting some of the TV's picture settings may correct the problem. For most Vizio TVs you find these by pressing the remote's "Menu" button and selecting "TV Settings," then "Picture." Here you can adjust the light level of the image with options like "Backlight," "Brightness" and "Contrast." You can adjust the color options with "Color" and "Tint" settings. "Color" affects the saturation levels, and "tint" adjusts the hue, which is especially evident in skin tones.
Noise Reduction
Most Vizio TVs have a "Noise Reduction" setting that attempts to minimize minor distortions of digital images, like pixelation and compression artifacts. This can make the picture look better in many cases, but often the difference is subtle and the improvement can be highly subjective. To enable or disable this option, press the remote's "Menu" button and navigate to the navigate to the advanced picture settings; usually this is under "TV Settings," then "Picture," then "Advanced Picture." Some units don't have a "TV Settings" option, and in that case select "Picture" from the main menu.
Connections
The image on your display can distort if the TV's cords aren't securely connected. The TV could even have a very strong tint under certain circumstances; this can happen if you use a component connection and two of the cords are plugged into the wrong ports. Check all of the cords to make sure that none are loose and they all plug into the correct ports on the TV and the other devices in your entertainment center. If you're going to disconnect any cords, you should turn the TV off first.
Reception
Some problems, particularly with over-the-air broadcasts, are due to your reception or to the broadcast itself. In this case, the only options you have are to move your digital receiver to a better location or wait for the broadcast station to correct any problems it may be experiencing.
Resolution and Aspect Ratio
A display's resolution is its level of detail based on its exact width and height, such as 1920 by 1080. An aspect ratio is a display's relative width and height, such as 16 by 9. Usually you don't need to adjust these settings, since most modern devices like DVD players and gaming consoles set this up for you. In some cases one of these settings is incorrect, stretching or cutting off the image. This happens most often when you connect the TV to a computer or to an older device, like a VCR. If it's connected to a computer, adjust the computer's resolution so it's compatible with a 16-by-9 aspect ratio; the computer should ideally use the specific native resolution of your Vizio TV, if you know what that is. Sometimes, especially with VCRs and other older devices, your only choice is to adjust the TV's aspect ratio. Press the remote's "Menu" button and select the option for changing this setting; normally this is the "Wide" option. Here you change the aspect ratio with selections like "Wide," "Zoom," "Normal," "Panoramic" and "Stretch."
