Specs For An Abit Nf8v Motherboard

The ABIT NF8-V is a motherboard for desktop personal computers from ABIT, also known as Universal abit, a defunct computer components manufacturer that was headquartered in Taiwan. Although it is a discontinued product, customers can purchase the NF8-V from online retailers for about $180 to $360 as of May 2011.

Design and Technology

ABIT used the Advanced Technology Extended form factor when manufacturing the NF8-V, which measures 12 by 9.65 inches (305 by 245 mm). Each motherboard has ABIT CPU (central processing unit) ThermalGuard technology and SoftMenu technology. ThermalGuard protects the CPU, or microprocessor---which is fitted on the motherboard via a socket---from overheating, especially if the computer cooling system malfunctions. SoftMenu functions as a regulator of the CPU's processing and data transfer speeds.

Processor

The CPU used on the ABIT NF8-V is from semiconductor company Advanced Micro Devices' Athlon 64 or Sempron line, with a 1.6-GHz data transfer speed and AMD's HyperTransport, a high-speed technology that the company developed for connection between the CPU and motherboard. The socket that the NF8-V offers for these processors is Socket 754. The NF8-V also supports processors with AMD CPU Cool 'n' Quiet Technology, which increases the processor's energy efficiency.

Memory and Chipset

Each ABIT NF8-V has two 184-pin dual inline memory module sockets, which house the computer's system memory---as much as two gigabytes. The DIMM slots use double data rate synchronous dynamic random access memory architecture, with a memory access speed of 400 MHz. The motherboard's chipset is from graphics processing unit and chipset manufacturer Nvidia: a 250 GB NF3 that contains a built-in firewall and Ethernet connection with a peak data transfer of 1,000 megabits (or one gigabit) per second.

Connectors

An RJ-45 connector accompanies the ABIT NF8-V's built-in Ethernet, and it is positioned on the motherboard in a way that it appears at the back of the computer. Other rear input/outputs include four USB ports, two PS/2 connectors for the computer keyboard and mouse, serial and parallel connectors, and four audio jacks. The NF8-V's internal connectors include an accelerated graphics port, five peripheral component interconnect slots, two parallel advanced technology attachment (or Ultra DMA) connectors and two serial ATA connectors with a speed of 150 megabits per second.
