Upgrade A Motherboard With Vista

With advancing technology, swapping out motherboards is becoming easier.

Upgrading a motherboard can wreak havoc on a computer, as countless programs attempt to adjust to the new hardware. With Windows Vista, the hassle has been knocked down by a few degrees, but to completely upgrade a motherboard for Vista there are still steps you must take.

Instructions

1. Download the Vista-specific drivers for your new motherboard. It is important to do this beforehand, as once the new motherboard is in place, you will not have Internet access until you install them. Having the drivers on your hard drive allows you to install them without having to worry about updating them right away.

2. Power off your PC and unplug every cable from the device.

3. Rest the tower on its side and open it to give you clear access to the motherboard.

4. Disconnect all the wires from the motherboard.

5. Remove the screws holding the motherboard in place and carefully lift the old motherboard from the machine. If you are using the processor from the old board in the new board, take this time to place the new processor and the accompanying heat sink in the new board.

6. Secure the new motherboard into your computer tower using the screws that previously held the old motherboard in place. Reconnect the wires to the motherboard. When complete, close the tower and connect all the cables leading into the machine.

7. Power on your computer and install the Vista drivers that you previously downloaded. When complete, restart your computer to complete the upgrade process.
